Find Stations…
There are many sites that help you find radio stations. Whether you are traveling, looking for some new choices, just curious, or you need the details of a station you heard; this is a great place to start.
Radio Locator — This one will show you what you can receive at any location you choose and has great coverage maps for both FM and AM stations. It also has links to station websites and basic format descriptions.
Recnet — In addition to detailed station information, they also have news about relevant FCC actions. This site will go into more technical detail, and has great coverage maps for FM and TV stations plus limited AM maps. You can find pending FCC applications by the stations (changes in power, tower location, etc.) plus detailed history, including information on previous call letters.
Cavell Mertz & Associates, Inc. — If the name sounds like a big engineering firm, that’s because it is! They are one of the leaders in this field, and they operate a useful reference website. It has a lot of technical details for radio and TV, and is generally designed mostly for the broadcast industry to use. They do have a historical call letters search. This lets you look up stations by their previous identities.
Streaming Radio Guide — They have one of the most comprehensive search and indexing systems listing stations and FCC actions. They also have links to streams, so they could be listed in either section of this page.
Listen to station streams…
You can often find streaming links on station websites, but there also some site that consolidate links to hundreds of stations. These allow searches by format or geography as well.
TuneIn — This is one of the largest collections of radio streams you will be able to search in one place. It is worldwide, and has broadcasts of many station owners, countries, and formats. Whatever you seek is probably there. They do have “premium” subscriptions but the free version will allow listening to almost any station that streams.
Radio.Com — Featuring hundreds of stations, as well as podcasts, this site is well-produced and typically includes “now playing” information and pictures relevant to the music on the stations they stream.
I Heart Radio — This is the streaming site of IHeart Media, featuring their stations, plus others from around the USA and Mexico. It also has podcasts and some music playlist features of its own.
Note: Some of these sites are presented by owners who like to also espouse various political beliefs. Sites are only included here because of the useful radio-related information they provide. Endorsement is neither made nor implied of the views and opinions of any other site operator.
Much more coming soon…
This page will be expanded in the very near future, both in the existing categories and new ones for both broadcast professionals and the listening public.
